I don't say very often that I am enamored by something. In fact, the power behind that word requrires me to weigh its use very carefully. Let's look at the etymology: Amor is French for love, and en is used emphatically. So when I say that I am enamored by something, that means its force is so strong to make me love it emphatically.
Since I was 11 years old, the Academy Awards have enamored me. The idea of the best of the best in film sit together and celebrate their work. What's more, the medium is film, the most powerful and eclectic of all the modern media. The awards also... (more)

What I'm Watching This Season

MONDAYS

Heroes-One of the few modern science fiction series to gain a strong running, this serialized ensemble piece weaves constantly overlapping storylines into a brilliant and surprisingly believable narrative. During the first half of this season we met the main characters, nine heroes, two "regular people" in all, and now the season advances as each character hones his or her unique power. We also have the addition of new heroes with other powers whose roles remain to be seen.
Since no one totally anchors the show, this series is truly an ensemble work, featuring both stage and... (more)

Grey's Anatomy - "Drowning on Dry Land"

Dr. House in training, or simply a hard knock?
Opening with a slow motion, 70's-esque shot of Meredith drowning (not waving but drowning!) in the icy cold waters of some Seattle port. This one's going to be a tear jerker folks.
Each of the interns fight their own battle in this episode, with Izzie's and George's having the only resolutions in the episode (this is sweeps month, by the way). The cast is brilliant here, changing this disjointed story arc into a cohesive drama that caused an angry tirade in one of my viewing budies. The best episode... (more)

Written off as a carbon copy of House, this show begins with little promise. It opens simply with a scene involving a teenage violinist who passes out while performing onstage. Digital effects "gurus" attempt to show us what's going on in the girl's brain, but where they excel in pretty color schemes they lack in creativity and realism.
Rhythm in the opening scenes resembles somthing very much like CSI, with flat acting and all. Mark Feuerstein as Dr. Seger stumbles around as a new fellow to Stanley Tucci's Dr. Hanson. Tucci, well known for his character acting, namely last summer's The... (more)

I Hate Modern Culture

I need to rant here. I've been You-Tubing House all evening (it's Thanksgiving break people, I have no cable). House is one of the few smart shows on television this year, and it has a great following. I'm not complaining about that, what I am complaining about is the shallow cult following that persists on being one dimensional. All I can find are a lot of these "shippers" out there who only see significance in getting House to hook up with somebody (generally Cuddy, Cameron, or Wilson). Dudes, there is much more to this show than stupid "love" stories and whatnot. And, newsflash, guys... (more)

"Pardon me, sir, do you have any grey poupon?"

Foregoing a digression (though it wouldn't be a digression if I started with out talking about it) on the unclever and lackluster title for this episode, I'll jump right into the game here.
Let's cover the story: POTW (patient of the week) comes in to visit his comatose dad (10 years and running!) when House induces the POTW into a seizure. Assured that the boy's condition is somehow genetic, House strives to awaken the coma guy (played by John Larroquette).
This episode had some great character writing, but not so much plot... (more)

Now, tell me why McDreamy's in the front when show is called Grey's Anatomy.
Ha, while that headline may be a little misleading, I'm sure it got your attention. The big news with Grey's Anatomy this week is the coming out of TR Knight, better known to some viewers as George.
While the show itself seems to be adding characters left an right, sometimes making it hard for us to feel a close emotional connection that resembles the connection we had with the first year interns.
Tonight's episode itself was a high point in the season with great story arcs that tugged at the heartstrings but... (more)

It goes without saying, spoilers ahead.

C'mon, how could you imprison this face?

Thoughts on House, MD, Episode 3.05 "Fools in Love"
--Opener: I flippin' love this show. Hugh Laurie hasn't even made it onscreen yet and I'm already intrigued. Perhaps my interest is piqued due to the month-long hiatus of Fox's best drama (best comedy being Simpsons, of course).
--Cameron got a good stab "I tried following her home, but she gave me the slip."
--Holmesian: House's first puzzle is Wilson's motivation in chatting it up with the new pediatrics nurse and he jumps right in trying to... (more)

The West Wing
"Election Day"

I don't think I can handle this.
I'm still in shock regarding the last season of TWW. This show literally changed my life, causing me to consider politics as a career, and also making me much smarter and more observant.
Last night's episode followed the continuous stream of "shark jumping" which has plagued the series since Sorkin left. Josh and Donna finally got it on, much to the relief of some fans. I, however, was not amused. What used to be a friendly and altogether beautiful relationship with calculated sexual tension has, of late, become this... (more)
